Canoe hire

The campsite

Row, row, row your boat

Camp beside the lazily flowing water and enjoy plenty of activities only a hop, skip and a paddle away. Canal Camping caters for those that are looking for a relaxing, natural adventure, with the added bonus of being able to walk out of your tent, launch your canoe and drift along one of the country’s most unique canals.

The stretch of canal campers can explore from the campsite hasn’t been touched for more than 70 years, so you are certainly in for a treat indeed!

We have two beautiful swans that have made their nest in the middle of the canal, so please do pass quietly and respectfully. Keep your eyes peeled as the canal is brimming with wildlife, from barn owls to swallowtail butterfly, kingfisher, dragonfly to our resident otter!

Campers are welcome to launch their own canoes and kayaks, but feel free to leave a donation towards the upkeep of the canal. A popular route is to head to the Wayford Bridge Inn Hotel for a bite to eat. It will take you approximately 1.5 hours to paddle from the campsite and canoes can be moored up near the bridge. Before you set off, please note that you will reach the disused honing lock after 15 minutes of paddling. Dismount the canoe on the left-hand side, lift your canoe out of the water and walk to your left where you can re-launch. You will know when you have reached the lock, because the waterway is blocked off.

Don’t forget to pack plenty of water, sun cream, snacks and a sense of adventure for your trip!
